What the Other Apps Are Missing

Platforms like NextDoor, Citizen, Facebook community groups, and Twitter local pages have tens of millions of users. They are genuinely useful for staying aware of what's happening around you. But every single one of them shares a fundamental blind spot: they are reactive, not proactive.

They tell you a car was broken into on your street last night. They don't tell you what to do to prevent it from happening to you. They confirm a wildfire is 40 miles away. They don't help you figure out whether your family should evacuate, where to go, or whether you have the supplies to survive if roads close.

The gap nobody is filling

  • No emergency preparedness guidance — None of these apps tell you what to stockpile, what gear to buy, or how to plan for power outages, weather events, or civil unrest.
  • No official contact directories — When you need the police non-emergency line, fire department, or utility emergency contact, you're Googling it during a stressful moment. It should be posted in your home before you need it.
  • No verified product recommendations — When your neighbor posts "what security camera should I buy?" the answers are random opinions. We provide independent, tested recommendations.
  • No school safety resources — Parents have almost no centralized source for school safety information, emergency procedures, or how to supplement school security at home.
  • Privacy concerns — Every one of these platforms monetizes your location data and social graph. We don't collect or sell your personal information.

The Silent Security approach

We focus on what you can do now — before an incident happens. That means the right supplies, the right contacts, the right products, and a plan your family has actually practiced. When something does happen, you're ready instead of scrambling.

Where to start

If you haven't done anything yet, start here in this order:

  1. Take the Security Scorecard — 12 questions, 3 minutes, gives you a personalized priority list.
  2. Build a 72-hour emergency kit — The single most impactful thing most families haven't done yet.
  3. Find and post your local emergency contacts — 15 minutes of work that pays off in any crisis.
  4. Organize your neighborhood — Real community safety starts with knowing your neighbors, not just following them online.
  5. Know your regional risks — Use FEMA's National Risk Index to understand which hazards are most likely where you live and prep accordingly.
